Wire Mesh Filter Discs: Design and Specification Guide

A filter disc looks simple, but the edge treatment and shape tolerance matter as much as the mesh spec itself.

A filter disc is one of the simplest-looking parts in a process line — a flat, round piece of mesh — but getting the edge construction and shape tolerance wrong causes leaks around the seal or premature failure under pressure just as often as getting the mesh spec wrong does.

Disc vs. Cylinder vs. Roll Stock

JoyLink produces filter discs, filter cylinders and mesh roll stock from the same Industrial Filter Screen line. Discs suit flat in-line filter housings; cylinders suit basket and candle-filter designs; roll stock is the raw material for custom fabricated parts built to a specific drawing.

Edge-Bound Construction

A rolled-rim, edge-bound disc resists pressure at the seal point without deforming or fraying — the detail that determines whether a disc survives repeated installation and cleaning cycles as a washable, reusable component rather than a single-use part.

Shape and Thickness Options

Beyond standard round discs, JoyLink supplies square, rectangular and oval shapes, in thicknesses from 1mm to 5mm, customizable to a housing's exact dimensions rather than forcing a housing redesign around a standard disc size.

Specifying a Custom Disc

A complete disc RFQ needs: diameter or shape and dimensions, thickness, mesh count or micron rating, and material grade (304L, 316L or 904L). Sending a drawing alongside these specs is the fastest path to an accurate quote.
